S/R Reflection

The summary and response essay is an essay about the theory of Hysterical Dissociation by Freud, and its relation to the narrator in “The Yellow Wallpaper”. This is to show if Freud’s theory on hysterical dissociation was accurate based on what happened to the narrator from “The Yellow Wallpaper”.

Throughout this essay, I hoped to accomplish being able to show my understanding of both texts, while making sense with analysis provided. The tone of this essay is informative. As mentioned before, the essay was to show the connection between Freud’s theory and the narrator of “The Yellow Wallpaper”. The setting based on both stories were in the 1910’s. Back then doctors constantly gave out misdiagnoses which resulted in mistreatments as shown in “The Yellow Wallpaper”.

The potential audience for this essay are my college peers and professors. The audience should be familiar with both stories since they will most likely be fellow classmates and my professors. I assume that my readers  don’t know how doctors back then didn’t think of anything that isn’t tangible, to be serious. But I assume they know what tangible means and the reasons behind why they thought like this.

While looking back on feedback from peers, I noticed my analysis wasn’t up to standard. Rather than connecting it back to my thesis and explaining its purpose, I just restated what the quote said in my own words. Since I got this feedback, I revised my analysis and tried to explain its purpose within the essay. Alongside this feedback, my thesis wasn’t as clear as it should have been. With the analysis redone, the thesis was also redone to make it more clear. With all of this feedback I was able to make the essay better and clearer to understand.
