The critical research paper is about how the author of Sonny’s Blues, James Baldwin, criticizes society through the story using characters like Sonny and his brother. It also takes into account how the story would be seen through a freudian lens and any freudian concept within the story.

Throughout the story I hoped to accomplish the raw emotion portrayed throughout Sonny’s Blues. In addition to this I hoped to show understanding of Freudian concepts and to properly establish their correct place throughout the story. 

Throughout the writing of my essay, I found it hard to insert the scholarly texts as I felt as if I’ve already said what I needed to. But they reinforced my argument so I learned where to put it to back up what I’ve said. I also had trouble with the structure of my essay as i didnt know how to transition to each paragraph. I also felt as if i was repeating myself so I had to make alterations when needed. I had my friend read over my essay as I wasn’t able to have a peer review it. With their suggestions I fixed my structure of the paragraphs as they were a bit messy with my first draft. 

This essay has helped me engage in the Course-Learning Outcomes as well. Finding scholarly articles for this essay was a bit hard because they weren’t very credible but I was able to search hard enough to find credible sources. In addition to this, I was also able to find other ways to refine my essay by asking my friend to review it, and giving myself a break to review what I wrote with a clear and refreshed mind.
